 Poor Construction/ Cheaply made March 9, 2010

I decided to get these for my two side speakers for my Onkyo-6200 HTIB...and this is probably one of the few times the phrase "you get what you paid for" applies to Amazon. I decided to take advantage of the price drop and sorry I did.
The product description includes "a built-in concealed wire path hides speaker cables for a clean and organized appearance in any room" This is basically a plastic panel that you have to squeeze into the grooves on the wood.
After several attempts at lining up the two pieces of the frame....it still left a gap in the front.
Again, I have to use the phrase: "you get what you pay for"

OK, First off, I had these things assembled within 15 minutes of their arrival, including cleanup time. Those who are complaining about assembly, are you kidding me? Simple as can be. I didn't even open the manual. Recycle it.
I can see how you might split the wood if you are careless and cranked these screws in, but that's not what you're supposed to do. Just snug them up, and there is no problem. The speakers just rest on top of them, there is no need to tighten the screws much at all.
The "isolation pads" they send with these stands are a joke. This is why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. Throw them away, and buy yourself a pad of double-sided foam tape about 1/4" thick, cut it into 8 squares and put 4 of them on the top of each stand, place the speaker on them and you're done. Then, you can still use the hole in the stand meant for the speaker wire to pass through.
As far as the gap in front, where the two boards come together, it is supposed to be that way, and it looks nice, if you ask me. The wires might show, so just use a little black electrical tape and tape the wire to one of the uprights. No biggy.

i bought these stands because of its price. I was going to buy some stands that make out of steel about 120. I really regret buying this stands. The wood is so cheap that it breaks when I screw them together. I can see cracks on them already where the screws are!!! However You wont see it unless u are very close to it. Dont even waste ur money and these stands only works for small speakers. It wont even work on bookshelf speakers. The wood where the speaker sits are so small!

For the money, these are great stands.
Had them from the box to holding speakers in 10 minutes. not sure why people are splitting them, they must not be very handy/mechanical. Its a simple assembly, you dont need instructions and one person can easily do it. dont use a drill, you need to tighten by hand, seems obvious but fyi. people will complain no matter what i guess. i have some MTX AAL 600b units on them and they look sweet.

I bought three pairs for my hefty 7.1 onkyo surround sound. The 31" was probably a little bigger than what I should've gotten. But it works. The base is pretty big and I don't quite like that feature but then again the stands are probably meant to hold heavier stands.
We didn't have any trouble putting it together or with its stability. I was surprised to know that the speakers just sit on top of it and was worried about tipping the speakers over because the little sticky pads that are supposed to hold the speakers in place fell off before I put the speakers on. To secure the speakers in place. We ended up putting a thin screw through the top of the speaker stand to wedge the speaker in place.
The quality isn't going to blow your socks off but I think it's a good product for the price.
